Bad Sound
All sound on the 512 mp4 ceases about 3/4 thru, playing w/ VLC, WMP and GOM.
v-a-v the film, alan mowbray is wasted (he shines in My Man Godfrey {as does everyone else}), hobbes is more vacuous than nigel bruce (is that possible?), and anna mae wong is a far better stereotypical oriental in Impact.
Another reviewer said Doyle is best- but.. nothing about this story (other than details about cigars) comes from ACD.
If you want SH, plot and dialog accurate to the texts, watch the early Jeremy Brett versions (later in the series the stories wander)

Enjoyable
While the story is simple and straightforward and the plot is obvious from the first act, the acting is fine and the characterizations are interesting. I enjoyed watching in any case. The script bears no resemblance to the Conan Doyle story, and has its problems, though very few. The only mystery kept till the end is the identity of the killer, and suspicion can easily educe that.
I downloaded the 834MB MPEG4 file. The images are clear enough, given the age of the film. There are missing frames, which seldom interfered with the dialog. There are lightly colored purple and green horizontal bars running from bottom to top while playing, so I turned color off in my video player. The audio is very noisy throughout, but the noise doesn't overwhelm the dialog.

No, you can't improve on Doyle.
Get a clue, filmmakers - people enjoyed the stories as they were. You egotistical revisions accomplish nothing.
